Topanga Days

I'm looking forward to performing at Topanga Days with my new band. I'm thinking of throwing in a couple covers for fun. Maybe Tom Petty's "Listen To Her Heart" and "Cheri" a song I've always loved by 20/20, a great L.A. band from circa 1980. There will also be a couple of new originals in the mix. Should be a fun day.

New Songs Coming

I'm having fun recording covers of Ticket To Ride and Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, my next two singles. I'm hoping to get back to recording some originals after that. I've got a bunch of 'em sitting around. I'm also planning on filming and posting a video on YouTube this weekend. Just a live solo performance—maybe Morris Road. Not sure. Any requests?

Well, we've had a last minute personnel change in the band and feel that there's not enough time to put on a quality show at Good Hurt on February 11, so we've made the difficult decision to cancel. We're very sorry. Our band is re-tooling and will be out and about soon. We'll keep you posted.

Rehearsals Going Well...

Last night, Walk Down Roscoe rehearsed with our new guitarist, Karl D'Amico, for the first time in Woodland Hills. We had a great time. Karl is a fast learner and very creative. We're thrilled to have him on board. We talked about bringing in a keyboardist also.

Also got the master back this morning for New York Mining Disaster 1941. Sounds good to my battered rock and roll ears. I'm waiting for the release of the mechanical license and then I will have it up ASAP. I also have plans to put out a video of the song.

I've finished recording my cover of New York Mining Disaster 1941. As soon as I get it mastered I will have it up on my site. It was a lot of fun to record, but getting the vocals was tough. I'm looking forward to talking to my friend Anthony Frazier on The Acoustic Hour Radio Show tomorrow morning. I'll try to post a podcast of the interview soon.

I started recording a cover of The Bee Gees first U.S. hit, New York Mining Disaster 1941 on Sunday. Added electric guitar, bass and strings this morning. Just need to re-record the vocals which are just scratch at this point. Then mix. What a fantastic song. I love their early stuff.

Lyrics

So I gave Bill three songs to help me finish. I've got the music done, for the most part. I thought I'd let him supply the lyrics. Then I woke up a couple of nights ago with the song title to one of them. "Beautiful Ride". I called Bill to ask him to hold off on that one for now. I wrote the lyrics to "Beautiful Ride" last night. I'll give Bill a pass at them. He can tweak things in a beautiful way. Then I went on to write another complete song, "Get Into The Movie". Felt good to get the stuff out. We'll see where it goes. I'm hoping to start recording Beautiful Ride next week. Also, I'm thinking of recording a new version of "New York Mining Disaster 1941", the Bee Gees' hit from the sixties.

Those Dang Lyrics

I've written the chords and melodies for a few new songs, but all I have for lyrics are a few unrelated phrases that don't make sense. Not that they have to make sense. But actual verses and choruses would be nice. Writing lyrics doesn't come easy for me, but there is only one way to get them done: write them.
